Service Description
Weaving is an art that is a part of everyday life - from the clothes we wear to fabrics and materials that we use and surround us on a daily basis. This introduction to weaving class is a creative arts class in which students will learn about the basic principles of weaving including terminology, techniques, tools and design concepts. Students will be introduced to a brief historical view of how weaving has been an essential part of Appalachian and Native American cultures. While this is a technique class, emphasis will be placed on trying various methods of weaving and on personal creative expression. Students will also learn the idea of up-cycling. The majority of the materials for this class were be generously donated old t-shirts, sheets, fabric swatches and even blue jeans. Students will create small woven piece from various materials (paper, yarn & fabric) and hopefully complete a small rag rug to keep!
